New Title Chosen for Upcoming Bridge Chronicles Novel

As mentioned in this previous news release, I have decided to rename the upcoming cyberpunk novel in the Bridge Chronicles series. I had originally named it The Shootist, a title which did have meaning in the context of the story. Discovering (or perhaps remembering) a John Wayne film of the same name, I came to discover the film had been based on a Western novel of the same name. Not wanting to confuse my novel with that novel in the search engines of Amazon and other book retailers, I decided that I needed to change the title to something more unique that still had meaning to the story. There were a few options I went over and rejected, mostly because of the same duplication of titles issue that would have come up with the previous title. While writing and researching yesterday, I finally hit upon a phrase that I liked and that fit with the story.

The new title for the fourth Bridge Chronicles novel is:

The Long and the Short Swords

The title comes from Katō Kiyomasa, a Japanese daimyō of the Azuchi-Momoyama and Edo period. Addressing the samurai under his command, he said:

"Having been born into the house of a warrior, one's intentions should be to grasp the long and the short swords and to die."

This just resonated with me and with the story. It just fit. Now that the title has been chosen, I can get to finishing the book which has taken entirely too long to write. I think fans of the previous books will be pleased. It follows many of the threads left after if [tribe] = and introduces a few new character in the universe that become much more important later. I hope to start work on the cover soon, and will show that off as soon as possible.

Thank you for following my work. I hope the new book gives you as much pleasure as writing it gives me.
